What is KYD®?
What is KYD®?
Section titled “What is KYD®?”KYD® (Know Your Devices) is the global device trust standard that defines the minimum requirements for establishing and maintaining trust in devices continuously, not once.
KYD® is a standard, not a product, platform, or security solution.
What KYD® Is
Section titled “What KYD® Is”KYD® is:
- A standard - Defines what device trust means
- Normative - Specifies requirements that can be tested
- Implementation-agnostic - Does not mandate specific technologies
- Versioned - Evolves deliberately and predictably
- Governed - Maintained to ensure consistency
- Adoptable - Can be referenced in contracts, audits, and procurement
What KYD® Is Not
Section titled “What KYD® Is Not”KYD® is NOT:
- A product or platform
- A security guarantee
- A threat prevention system
- A specific vendor or implementation
- A dashboard or UI
- A certification program (yet)
Core Principles
Section titled “Core Principles”KYD® is built on these principles:
- Trust is continuous, not static - Devices must be evaluated over time
- Trust is evidence-based, not assumed - Observation, not declaration
- Trust is explainable, not opaque - Decisions must be inspectable
- Trust is recorded, not ephemeral - History must be auditable
- Trust is independent, not vendor-locked - Any conforming implementation is valid
Next Steps
Section titled “Next Steps”- Read the Manifesto to understand why KYD® exists
- Read the Specification to understand the requirements
- See the Implementation Guide to build a compatible system
